Covid-19 UPDATE: Given Government confirmation that Garden Centres may now open, we have decided to open our gates – but for Collection Orders ONLY. The Nursery & Gardens are not open at this time.
However you may wish to book a Group Visit for later in the year, in which case please Contact Us.
These are early days in the Covid-19 Pandemic. Our health is as important as yours – we all need to tread with great caution. We will continue to follow Government updates and review our position. In the meantime we hope you find some much needed gardening tranquillity in the current crisis, and look forward to seeing you again soon at our beautiful nursery and garden.
Marchants Nursery & Gardens has gained recognition as one of the UK’s leading small nursery and gardens.
We have appeared in all major gardening periodicals and papers and a number of television programmes including ‘Gardener’s World’. Marchants is currently being filmed for Great British Gardens, presented by Carol Klein, which we anticipate will air on Channel 5 in the autumn of 2020.
In addition over a period of 15 years we have opened our garden to thousands of garden visitors, many from Europe and have also supported a number of worthy local charities.
By prior arrangement only, visits from Horticultural Societies, Garden Clubs, Private Parties and Groups of Garden Enthusiasts are warmly welcomed.
A visit can also be combined with other interesting gardens nearby making for a rewarding day excursion. Larger gardens such as Great Dixter, Merriments Gardens and Pashley Manor Gardens are all within striking distance, being an hour or so distant by car.
The duration of a visit is largely dependent on the interests of the visitors. Marchants is not a big garden but we believe there is much for visitors to see and enjoy. In general, for a relaxed visit 1.5 hours should be allowed. This also gives visitors time to purchase plants in the Nursery should they wish.
Group visits are welcomed on any day of the week, but our preference is to receive groups on days the Nursery is closed to the general public. ie, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday. Visits to the Garden/Nursery on days other than those specified are by appointment only. The Nursery would of course be open to the Group for plant purchases.

Our standard entrance fee for the garden is £5.50 per person. However, the majority of groups prefer the option of a personal introduction to Marchants by proprietor and renowned plantsman Graham Gough. Graham will also make himself available to answer visitors’ questions for the duration of a visit.
The following scale of charges applies if this option is chosen:
Group Size: 15 (minimum) and above
Inclusive Price Per Head: £6.50 / children under 16: entrance is free.
Refreshments: our facilities for refreshments are limited. For small groups (up to 25) cold refreshments can be provided for a small extra charge. We are also happy to provide small groups with a poor point and our Potting Shed for do-it-yourself teas/coffees. Visitors are requested to provide their own provisions and equipment in these circumstances.
